Switzerland

Switzerland is a country in Central Europe that borders Germany in the north, Austria and Liechtenstein in the east, Italy in the south and France in the west. The Alpine country has several national languages (German, Italian, French and Romansh). By the way, the capital of Switzerland is Bern and not, as is often wrongly assumed, Zurich.

The landscape of Switzerland is very varied and has a lot to offer for nature lovers of all kinds. Most of Switzerland is covered by the Alps, making it perfect for hiking, mountain biking and climbing. Especially in the south of Switzerland, the Italian-speaking part, there is also a special cultural component. This means that Mediterranean flair and mountains can be perfectly combined in Ticino.

But there are also countless opportunities to be active in the mountains in other regions of Switzerland. Almost everywhere you can go hiking through beautiful and still lonely valleys or with 74 peaks that are more than half of 4000 meters, Switzerland is a mountaineer’s dream. Interestingly, the well-known Matterhorn is not the highest mountain in Switzerland. The highest mountain in Switzerland is the Dufourspitze in the Monte Rosa massif at 4634 meters.

Switzerland has a dense network of mountain huts. Thus, multi-day hikes can be optimally realized. Especially the hearty cuisine in the north of the country and the Italian-inspired cuisine of the south inspire culinary fans. The famous Swiss raclette or cheese fondue are simply a part of a stay in Switzerland. Hearty dishes like this taste particularly good after a day on the slopes. Switzerland is known for excellent ski areas, such as in Zermatt or Arosa.

In addition to hiking in the mountains, Switzerland is also suitable for water hiking. There are varied routes on the numerous rivers and lakes by canoe or kayak. We can recommend the Swiss website www.schweizmobil.ch for tour planning. Hiking, skiing, inline skating, kayaking and other tours can be optimally planned there.

Switzerland impresses with breathtaking views, thundering waterfalls (the Rhine Falls are among the largest in Europe), delicious food and rustic mountain villages.

Switzerland is definitely one of our favorite travel destinations in Europe and it shouldn’t be missing on any travel list.
