Laterns – skiing in the winter wonderland

Date

About the ski area:

The Laterns ski area offers skiing fun on 27 kilometres of slopes. There are practice slopes for families as well as steep descents for the experienced skier. In addition, non-skiers get their money’s worth with the 25-minute downhill sledding run. The sledding run leads through a beautiful forest most of the time. The ski area also has a ski kindergarten where young non-skiers can spend the day while their parents are out on the slopes.

About us:

We are Moritz and Christiane from Bregenz and this year we will explore the different ski areas of the 3TälerPass. Christiane only started skiing last year and will start her second skiing season in 2018/2019. This will give you an insight into the ski areas from a beginner’s perspective. Since Moritz has been on skis for a while, he also feels comfortable on steep slopes. He will describe his impressions for more advanced skier.

Our day in the Laterns ski area:

After days of snowfall we finally wanted to enjoy the slopes and the fresh snow. Despite the snowfall, we decided to pay a visit to the Laterns ski area. The road was cleared, and we got to the ski area without any problems. The lift starts directly at the parking lot – so no long walks needed.

The entire ski area looked like a winter wonderland. The fir trees and the huts on the slopes were covered in thick snow. And what can we say: The slopes were a dream! Simply amazing. The slopes were well groomed and driving on fresh snow is just fun. The ski area of Laterns is small, but rightly attracts many winter sports enthusiasts. The descents can be combined in an interesting way and if you go from top to bottom you have a really long descent behind you.

Unfortunately, the fog got thicker and the view got worse during the morning, but our day of skiing in Laterns was still great!

Favourite slope Moritz:

I particularly enjoyed the slope 7 (red). The slope is short, but it is reasonably fast, has some waves and steep sections.

Favourite slope Christiane:

I really liked red slope 1 – especially if you keep left in front of the 6-person lift. The route is sometimes flat and sometimes steeper and even as a beginner, I was able to practice driving fast here.

Refreshments:

From the “Falba Stuba”, right at the end of the Gapfohl lift, you have a wonderful view of the slopes. The hut is comfortably furnished and has a nice bar, where you can have a drink. Down in the valley you can also stop in the “Kuhstall” and warm up again. For a good mood with après ski you can visit the “Schnall Ab” at the valley station.

What is special about Laterns:

The Laterns ski area is particularly suitable for families and beginners, as most slopes are not too difficult to ski and still offer a lot of variety.

Other great skiing areas in Vorarlberg are the family skiing area Sonnenkopf and the skiing area Faschina.
